Exam Results

I would like to congratulate all the students who have received their A Level and GCSE results in the Witham constituency this month and wish them the very best of luck as they embark on the next big adventure of their life. I would also like to thank the wonderful teachers across the Witham constituency, who I know have worked tirelessly to support students to reach their potential.

Essex Police and Fire Survey

There are a few days left to share your views and comments on both the police and crime & fire and rescue plans being developed by the Essex Police & Crime Commissioner for the next four years.

Following the election earlier this year, Essex PFCC Roger Hirst is seeking input from residents across Essex to help shape the priorities for both Essex Police, and Essex Fire & Rescue so that they provide a service that deliver on your priorities.

Whilst significant progress has been made over the past four years via the previous plan, with Essex Police now at its largest size in its 185 year history and the Fire service benefiting from a new recruitment programme as well, there is much more to do when it comes to the priorities for the next four years.

The survey opened in July, and will close for comments on Sunday the 1st of September, so please do make sure to complete this short survey and help feed in your opinions on the policing and fire priorities for our county over the next four years, which you can do by pressing the button below.

It was wonderful to visit Visions Opticians in Witham and meet with their Managing Director Mr Ahmed Vahed. Visions are an independent family opticians, and have been operating in Witham for the past 10 years. I am very pleased that this fantastic local business is helping to serve the needs of local people and has gone from strength to strength over the last decade.

Visiting Tollesbury GP Surgery

I was delighted to visit Tollesbury GP Surgery to congratulate the practice on their excellent performance in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction in this year’s annual GP patient survey. The team has been working extremely hard to provide efficient community care and support patients and it was wonderful to commend them on this work and learn more about their expansion plans.

Meeting members of the Cressing Parish Council

This month I met with members of Cressing Parish Council and local residents of the village to discuss the longstanding and ongoing road safety issue relating to Bulford Mill Lane. During the meeting, there was agreement the road is totally unsuitable for large vehicles to use, which at times have caused damage to some of the properties along the road, and I am committed to supporting the community and raising the concerns with Essex County Council and Highways.

Visiting Witham Job Centre

It was a pleasure to visit the Job Centre in Witham this month to meet the staff and discuss their important ongoing work. I am passionate about local employment opportunities, and we had an engaging discussion about the steps the Job Centre is taking to support people finding new employment.

Transport Update

School Transport

I am aware of the recent issues with school transport affecting at least three schools in the Witham constituency, and many more schools across Essex due to the changes made by Flagfinders Coaches ahead of the new academic year.

Whilst the price increase in itself is likely to disadvantage some families, the changes in how the payments are made and the move from changing these payments from monthly payments to upfront payments, has seriously impacted families and made them anxious about how they would be expected to meet a high cost upfront with very little notice provided.

I have raised this issue with Flagfinders Coaches, who have now issued an apology to parents and carers and made changes to their payment system. Payments will now be made either via monthly direct debit or upfront.
