Witham MP Priti Patel has welcomed the release of new figures which show that claimant count unemployment in the constituency continues to remain low. Figures released from the Office of National Statistics show that in January 2018 there were 545 claimants, which is 70% lower than the peak under the last Labour Government. Priti said:

“This part of Essex continues to see high levels of job creation and low unemployment. Since 2010 more local people are finding employment and families are benefiting from the security of a regular income.”

“Local businesses are fantastic at creating jobs, apprenticeships and new employment opportunities. The fact that unemployment has fallen considerably since the dark days of the last Labour Government shows that our country is in a strong position to secure more success in the future as Britain leaves the European Union.”
