Witham MP Priti Patel has called on the Government to take robust action to deport more foreign national offenders directly from prisons.

During a debate on reforms to the rules on deporting foreign national offenders (FNO) directly from prisons, Priti highlighted that 12,000 FNO were deported during her time as Home Secretary despite Covid travel restrictions and that removing these dangerous criminals from our country was in the national interest.

She also commented on the importance of protecting victims and criticised the Labour Party and others who have campaigned to keep dangerous foreign offenders free in our communities.

Priti said: “Living in the UK is a privilege and foreign national offenders who commit serious crimes and pose a danger to the public should expect to be deported and banned from returning. Removing these dangerous criminals from our country will make a streets safer and protect communities in this country from harm.

It is disgraceful that Labour MPs have been campaigning for the rights of murderers, sex offenders and drug dealers to stay in the UK. They should be taken from prison to plane and never allowed to return.”
