Priti backs business rates freeze
Witham MP Priti Patel has spoken in support of a freeze in business rates for small businesses. The multiplier, the inflation linked measure by which business rates increase each year, is being frozen for firms occupying premises with rateable values of less than £51,000. Priti spoke of the benefits to small firms in the Witham constituency of freezing rates and support high streets and jobs when the regulations to freeze the multiplier were debated in Parliament. Priti, who has previously called for lower taxes on businesses, said:
“Small and medium sized businesses are the lifeblood of our local community and support around 80% of local jobs. Easing the tax burden on businesses by freezing rates will help them in these challenging economic times to invest in their businesses and in creating jobs rather than paying more in taxes. I will continue to campaign for lower taxes to back our businesses to grow and invest.”
