Witham MP, Priti Patel, is supporting this year’s Summer Reading Challenge and is calling on young people across the Witham constituency to take part.

The annual Summer Reading Challenge is run by The Reading Agency and encourages young people to read at least six books during the summer. This year’s challenge will be run online, rather than in libraries, in response to the Covid-19 outbreak and the theme is ‘Silly Squad’ to celebrate funny books and having a laugh.

Priti said: “The Summer Reading Challenge is a fun, free and inclusive way to encourage young people to read during the summer and I hope that record numbers of young people in Essex will sign up this year. My Get Witham Reading event this summer is also encouraging young people to read as many books as possible by Friday 3 July. I hope that both events will inspire children and young people across my constituency to develop a lifelong love of reading.”

The Summer Reading Challenge will launch on Friday 5 June 2020 and run until September. More information about the challenge and how to take part can be found at: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.
