The Witham MP, Priti Patel, Witham Northern Division County Councillor Ross Playle and Coggeshall District Councillor Nick Unsworth have met to discuss their continued opposition to the latest planning application for the Rivenhall Incinerator by Indaver. They got together on Saturday (30th October) at the Witham Library meeting room.

This application is being brought forward as the site has not been developed within a previously approved five-year time period and Indaver is now required to put forward a ‘plan of action’. The three representatives are longstanding opponents of the incinerator and are campaigning against Indaver’s latest plans, which include the possibility of a larger incinerator on the site. The plans are also opposed by a number of local parish councils and many residents. The application is currently being considered by Essex County Council.

Priti said: “Our communities across this part of Essex are opposed to the waste incinerator and I am pleased to stand with Ross and Nick in continuing to object to this unacceptable development. It has been nearly twelve years since the waste incinerator was first approved and over that time we have seen the plans change and concerns continually being raised about its environmental impact.

“The latest application for this site leaves the door open for a waste incinerator to operate and it is shocking to see an even larger incinerator being considered. I will continue to work with councillors and local communities to oppose these plans and to get this incinerator stopped.”
