Witham MP and Chair of the Great Eastern Mainline Taskforce, the Rt Hon Priti Patel has welcomed today’s launch of the Delay Repay 15 scheme during a visit to Witham Station by Rail Minister, Andrew Jones MP.  The new scheme, which starts on 1st April allows passengers on Greater Anglia trains that are delayed between 15 and 29 minutes to claim back 25 per cent of the single fare, regardless of the cause of the delay.  Existing arrangements for claims on delays of 30 minutes or more are unchanged.

Ms Patel said: “This is a big step forward for Witham Station users.  Rail tickets cost a lot of money and passengers are entitled to expect to complete their journeys either on time or reasonably close to time. A rail ticket is a contract between the passenger and the service provider, the terms of which should be honoured because delays disrupt people’s lives and damage our economy locally and nationally.  I thank the Minister for his help in making this happen. I have been working closely with him and the Department of Transport on this project and I am delighted to see it get off the ground today.”

Rail Minister Andrew Jones said: “My absolute priority is that passengers get the reliable services that they deserve but if things go wrong, people must be compensated fairly and quickly.  I am determined to work with the industry to ensure that it operates as effectively as it can for the communities and businesses it serves. In the meantime, today’s announcement is a big step forward and good news for passengers on Greater Anglia trains.”
