Priti Patel MP backs Witham Industrial Watch ballot

Published: 3rd July 2019 - 2:29 pm Category: Local News

Witham MP Priti Patel is supporting the ballot for Witham Industrial Watch (WIW) to continue to champion businesses on the Town’s industrial estates in a ballot to renew their Business Improvement District (BID) for a third five year term. BID status enables the WIW to re-invest funds raised from businesses on the estate. In previous years this has including investing in Crown prevention measures, CCTV and maintenance. The prospectus for the next five years has been developed after consulting businesses and includes commitments to continue supporting crime prevention measures, road gritting, better signage and action to improve the appearance of the estate. Priti, who regularly meets with business in the industrial estates in Witham, said:

“I am proud to support the ballot for the BID to continue for a further five years and commend the work undertaken to produce a prospectus which supports local business needs. Witham Industrial Watch have a strong track record raising the profile of issues affecting businesses on the estates and delivering improvements to the area. The industrial estates are a major source of local employment and contain businesses with global reach. Renewing the BID will enable WIW to carry on championing the industrial estates and helping those businesses deal with the challenges they face.”

Notes:

Business Improvement District status enables a small levy to be charged on businesses across the designated area through their business rates. For a BID ballot to be successful there needs to be a double majority whereby a majority of business hereditaments vote in support and a majority of rateable values across the BID area vote in support.

The ballot papers are despatched on 2 July 2019 and voting closes on 30 July 2019. Results are due to be announced on 31 July 2019.
