Priti Patel, the MP for Witham, has welcomed Tory leadership candidate Boris Johnson’s pledge to increase police numbers across the country by 20,000, if he becomes Prime Minister later this this month. Priti, who has successfully campaigned for more police funding for Essex, said:

“The law-abiding majority should be able to feel safe in their homes and in their communities. We need a Prime Minister who will take the fight to the criminals, be on the side of victims and back our police. Boris has a proven track record tackling crime and supporting effective policing in London. As Prime Minister, he will give the police the powers and the resources they need to take back control of our streets and put more bobbies on the beat.”

“I have already successfully lobbied the Government to give our police more funding to increase officer numbers and I welcome the renewed focus on backing the police and cutting crime, which would happen under Boris’s leadership.”
