At a special summit meeting organised by the Office Priti Patel MP, the Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways Maintenance and Sustainable Transport, Cllr Lee Scott, Tiptree Parish Councillors, Sue Allen-Shepherd, Jonathan Greenwood and Stuart Gulleford and Colchester Borough Councillor Roger Mannion have met with Priti to discuss the state of the Village’s roads, pavements, streetlights and transport infrastructure.

Meeting at the Community Centre on Wednesday (4th May 2022), Cllr Scott was given a full briefing on the key issues affecting Tiptree’s highways and, afterwards he was taken on a tour of Tiptree’s pothole blackspots, including the Maldon Road junction with the Great Braxted Road, the mini roundabout adjacent to the Factory Shop and the very big hole in the Maldon Road near the junction with Station Road.

Commenting after the meeting, Priti said: “I am pleased that Cllr Scott has been able to see for himself the issues we have here in Tiptree. There is no question that the Village’s roads have deteriorated badly in recent years and repairs are urgently needed in some areas. I hope that Cllr Scott will use his influence to ensure that Tiptree gets the priority it deserves.”

Cllr Lee Scott said: “I welcome the opportunity to sit down with Priti and Tiptree’s Councillors to talk through the Village’s needs and to have a first-hand look at the worst affected areas. I will be working to ensure that the dangerous delaminated (decaying road surface) and potholed areas are dealt with as soon as possible. Several have already been marked up for action.

“In some areas, there is more delamination than I would expect to see. Therefore, I am going to ask the County’s officers to determine whether there is any underlying cause for it. The results from their investigations will provide guidance on how best to effect lasting repairs.”
