The Witham MP, Priti Patel, has welcomed the news that two heritage organisations in her constituency have been awarded grants from the Government’s £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund. The Marney Partnership, which maintains the Marney Tower and grounds, receives £62,200 and the Museum of Power at Langford, with its many industrial exhibits and extensive grounds will receive £31,386.

Priti said: “These awards are excellent news which give us all a boost as we head toward the summer. They amply demonstrate the strong cultural heritage we have here in Witham. I am delighted that two such worthy causes will be receiving financial support from the Government.

“As a patron of the Museum of Power, I am particularly pleased to see their hard work in preserving and keeping alive our industrial history is being recognised and supported by the Government.”

The Marney Partnership and the Museum of Power are among more than 2,700 cultural organisations across the country which have received some £300 million in financial support in the latest round of grants from the Culture Recovery Fund.

The award to the Marney Tower, England’s tallest Tudor Gatehouse and one of the most iconic and historic buildings in the country, follows the grants awarded to them last year from the Fund of £150,700 and £82,800. Priti wrote a letter in support of the Marney Partnership’s latest successful application for Culture Recovery funding.

The Museum of Power, which is located in the Essex & Suffolk Water’s former pumping station at Langford, will use the award to appoint two Event Managers between April and June to work on the development of its future events programmes following closure during the lockdown. It will also be developing a new marketing plan and delivering new marketing materials, campaigns and advertisements.

Over £800 million in grants and loans has already been awarded to support almost 3,800 cinemas, performance venues, museums, heritage sites and other cultural organisations across the country, in dealing with the immediate challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.
