Disappointed by Drakes Lane Planning Decision

Witham MP Priti Patel has expressed her disappointment with Chelmsford City Council over the decision taken last night [4 December 2018] to grant planning permission for nine Traveller pitches at Drakes Lane. The site is located close to the boundary of the Witham constituency and Priti has been supporting residents and businesses affected by the proposals. Priti said:

“The decision taken by Chelmsford City Council is extremely disappointing. The site does not conform to national and local planning policies and will have a detrimental impact on the businesses located nearby. There are no local facilities or services to support a development of this scale, with the nearest schools over two miles away.”

“National planning policy explicitly cautions against proposals like these being granted permission because they are harmful to the people who will live there and detrimental to the surrounding area. It is shocking that the Council has got itself into this position where it has felt compelled to approve this site.”
