Priti highlights Get Witham Reading scheme in Parliamentary debate
Witham MP Priti Patel has highlighted her annual Get Witham Reading scheme during a Parliamentary debate (6th June 2023) on reading and children’s access to books. In addition to talking about Get Witham Reading and the forthcoming events on 7th July (GWR day 2023), she also commented on the role of libraries and parents in supporting reading and the benefits to child development.
Priti said: “Encouraging reading for learning and fun is an important part of a child’s development and I welcome the improvements in literacy standards in recent years. There are many benefits to reading and I am delighted that schools across this part of Essex will be supporting my Get Witham Reading scheme next month. Along with the summer reading challenge taking place in our libraries, I am looking forward to seeing thousands of local children enjoy reading more books, learning and developing their imaginations.”
