Priti Patel, the MP for Witham has expressed her delight at the news that the Museum of Power in Langford, Maldon will be receiving a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £890,700 for its Powering Forward project.

The project will make major improvements to the visitor offer at the Museum by undertaking large capital improvements, redesigning displays and interpretation, and implementing a programme of learning and volunteer skills development. The award was made by the Heritage Fund’s Midlands and East Committee at their March meeting and has been formally confirmed this week.

Priti said: “I am thrilled and, as a patron of the Museum, very proud to hear that the National Lottery has recognised the dedication and hard work of the staff and volunteers at the Museum of Power, in awarding them this fantastic grant. It is a major investment that will help to guarantee the Museum’s future through expansion and modernisation of its facilities. It will really put the Museum on the cultural heritage map and ensure that our country’s proud history in the development of power will be preserved and maintained.

“I am greatly looking forward to visiting the Museum again, after it re-opens in May.”

As a patron of the Museum and the local MP, Priti was more than happy to write a letter to the National Lottery in support of the Museum’s application for the grant, last year. It was their second application and brings to fruition more than a year’s work in preparing the applications and in developing the match funding sources required for eligibility for the grant.
