Priti Patel MP welcomes Essex County Council’s decision to keep libraries open

Priti Patel, the Witham MP, has welcomed today’s announcement (9.07.19) by the Leader of Essex County Council, Cllr David Finch at a full council meeting that no public libraries in Essex will close over the next five years.  She has written to Cllr Finch requesting further details of the new investment strategy for library funding and the offer of community management, which he mentioned in his speech.

Priti said: “This is really good news for many local communities that were facing the possibility of losing their libraries, including seven in my constituency.  I believe Essex County Council has been surprised at the level of reaction to their consultation on the closure proposals. I am pleased that they have listened to the many representations I have made to them on behalf of local residents.”

“However, I will not be getting too excited until I see the detail on this decision.”
