Priti remembers fallen on Armistice centenary
Witham MP Priti Patel has marked Remembrance Sunday by paying tribute to those who have lost their lives defending Britain in wars and conflicts at the Remembrance Day service in Tollesbury in the morning and the parade in Witham in the afternoon. Priti laid poppy wreaths at the war memorials in Tollesbury and Witham and wreaths were laid on her behalf in Tiptree, Wickham Bishops, Woodham Walter, Tolleshunt Knights and Coggeshall by councillors Barbara Wood, Henry Bass, Mark Durham, Maddie Thompson and Lynette Bowers-Flint. In the evening Priti attended the beacon lighting in Maldon. Priti said:
“Remembrance services this year are particularly poignant as we mark one hundred years since the guns fell silent at the end of the First World War. As we stand by war memorials we remember in silence the heroism, courage and sacrifice of those who defended our freedoms and our country but did not return. Those who will never grow old must remain in our thoughts and should never be forgotten.”
“As we reflect on the names inscribed on those memorials of those who came from our communities in this part of Essex we should be incredibly grateful for the bravery they displayed. We should also remember those who fought alongside them on land, sea and in the air from across the Commonwealth and the globe to defend freedom and save our country and the world from oppression and tyranny. Amidst the unimaginable terror, horror and devastation of war we should be proud of the remarkable bonds of friendship that bound together our allies and led us to victory and to peace.”
