Priti Patel, the Conservative Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Witham constituency, has welcomed the decision taken by Maldon District Council to refuse a planning application for a huge 90 dwelling development on a site off of Mell Road in Tollesbury. The application was rejected on a number of grounds, including the site being outside the settlement boundary, no legal agreement to address concerns about the impact on the highway and potential damage to the environment and local ecology.

Priti, who has been working with local campaigners and Tollesbury Councillor Elaine Bamford to object to the application, said: “This is a big win for local residents and campaigners who I have been pleased to support throughout this process. Tollesbury has already experienced residential growth and these appalling plans from a speculative developer showed no regard or respect for the local community. These plans would have posed significant risks to highways and safety, as well as putting huge pressures on local services.  It would also have harmed our environment.”

“I commend local campaigners for their hard work in opposing this application and I will continue to support them if the application is appealed.”
