On Friday (11th October) Witham MP, Priti Patel, visited the Tea Rooms in the Newlands Centre, Witham, alongside Witham Mayor, Cllr Clare Lager, to present Manager, Lisa Jane with a special certificate from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), represented by Rod Lane, for collecting their first £1,000 for the RNLI Witham Fundraising Group’s ‘Betty’s Pots’ appeal. The money was raised through Tea Rooms’ customers taking away and filling the pots with spare change.

The collection by the Tea Rooms stands at £1,100 and will continue.

Speaking after the presentation, Priti said: “It is wonderful to see the Tea Rooms and its customers getting so strongly behind this important appeal. The value of the RNLI’s brave volunteers who rescue people in trouble at sea and during flooding can never be over-estimated. I congratulate Lisa Jane and the RNLI Witham Fundraising Group for their magnificent effort and achievement.”
