Priti Patel, the Member of Parliament for Witham, called in at White Notley Primary School on Thursday 8th December, following letters from pupils in class four who had written to her as part of UK Parliament Week.

UK Parliament Week is an annual event and took place between 14th and 20th November this year. Its purpose is to spread the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how members of the public can get involved.

Priti displays the personal letters she had prepared for each one of the White Notley Primary School children who wrote to her.

The pupils from White Notley Primary School took part in activities to learn about the composition of Parliament and some of its unique traditions, before having a go at standing for office themselves. The students formed political parties, wrote manifestos with policy ideas and commitments before taking part in elections.

The children also wrote letters to Priti, highlighting the interesting facts they had learned about Parliament during the activities and raising some of the issues they had included in their manifestos.

Priti said: “It is always fantastic to see younger people taking an interest in Parliament and how it operates and UK Parliament Week is a great opportunity to engage and learn about our political system.

“Well done to all of the pupils for their work in producing manifestos and standing for elections. By the sound of it, they all enjoyed the events of UK Parliament Week very much and hopefully they will be able to come and see Parliament in person in the future.”
