The MP for Witham, Priti Patel, has welcomed the news that the first of the new Bombardier designed suburban trains from Greater Anglia went into service on the Braintree/Witham to London route at 06.40 this morning (16.12.20).

The new train has additional seating capacity and the passenger experience has been greatly enhanced by the introduction of USB and plug points for charging mobile phones etc, free WiFi and air conditioning. There are also improved accessibility features including an accessible toilet on every train, dedicated cycle spaces and better passenger information screens. More of these new trains will be rolled out across the Greater Anglia network in 2021.

Priti Patel MP, who personally helped to secure some £1.5 billion of investment for the Greater Anglia franchise, of which £1 billion went into new trains, said:

“It is very good to see these impressive new trains coming into service. They have been specifically designed to improve capacity and enhance the passenger experience to include all the accoutrements for the modern traveller as well as much needed extra accessibility. These improvements help ensure that commuter travel from the Witham constituency along the line to London is brought up to modern standards, giving the business community the support it needs to guarantee a strong economic future for the region. This is all the more important for the post Covid recovery, as we build back better.”
