Priti looks out for residents troubled by heavy traffic in Great Wigborough and Woodham Mortimer

Concern is being expressed by residents on the Maldon Road through Great Wigborough, about the amount, type and speed of the traffic using that route.  They are particularly concerned about the increasing number of HGVs, which cause considerable vibration in nearby properties, which are very close to the road.  It is a single carriageway and the speed limits range from 30–60mph.  They would like to see lower weight and speed limits, as a matter of urgency.

These residents have brought their concerns to Priti Patel, who has raised the matter with Essex County Council (ECC), who have advised her that the Colchester Local Highways Panel (LHP) has funded a Route Based Study of the B1026 from Peldon to Salcott, to consider traffic management improvements along the route. This study is due for completion this month (March) and its conclusions will be shared with County Councillors. Priti has asked to be informed of the Panel’s findings.

Heavy traffic is also causing problems in Woodham Mortimer, where constituents have raised concern over the positioning of the bus stop, as it is unsafe to cross the Maldon Road at the point where it is situated. The Woodham Mortimer and Hazeleigh Parish Council are currently investigating whether it is feasible to relocate the bus stop to a safer location.   A meeting between ECC and the Parish Council will be arranged when these investigations have been completed. Again, Priti has asked to be kept informed of the outcome.
