The Witham MP, Priti Patel, has praised the winners in the Maldon District Conservation & Design Awards 2021, three of whom are in her constituency.  The scheme is operated by Maldon District Council and the judging panel is Chaired by Cllr Richard Siddall.

Priti said: “I am delighted to see that no fewer than three out of six Maldon District Conservation and Design award winners this year are in my Witham Constituency.  I would like to congratulate them all on their success, which brings great distinction to our part of the world, as a centre for high quality architecture, design and conservation.

“I am particularly pleased to see that Lauriston Community Farm is one of the winners as I have only recently visited it myself, just a couple of weeks ago, and I was hugely impressed with the work they are doing both in terms of conservation and in providing farming and craft experience for people with learning difficulties.”

The winners in the Witham constituency were:

Goose House in Woodham Mortimer wins an award for architectural design of a new sustainable home for the owner of a nearby grade II listed building and will allow him to continue to live on the land as ages.  The design is by new architect Annabel Brown.

St Peter’s Church Wickham Bishops for a new stained-glass east window by artist Ben Finn.  The judges of the awards created a special category, a commendation for artistic craftsmanship, because they were so impressed with its quality and techniques including the use of handblown ‘antique’ glass for the figures depicted in the window.

Lauriston Community Farm in Goldhanger wins the award for Nature Conservation, including the maintenance of an historic saltmarsh meadow, home to a vast range of wildlife.  The 210-acre farm is community owned and provides opportunities for people with learning difficulties and autism to experience daily farm work.
