Priti raises local planning and infrastructure issues in Parliament

Priti Patel, the MP for Witham, has held a debate in Parliament on housing and infrastructure in Essex (21st June 2023). During the debate she raised with the Government’s Housing and Planning Ministers local concerns over the way planning decisions are made, protections for local communities, and the need for investment in roads, health facilities and schools to support a growing population.

Priti said: “This part of Essex has experienced high levels of housing and population growth in recent years but the quality of infrastructure and investment in new public services has not always kept pace with growing demands. Our local communities have also faced pressures from developers pressing to get planning approvals for large sites that are sometimes in unsuitable locations and compromise other development plans.

“I was pleased to highlight the challenges we face with Ministers and the importance of new developments being based on local wishes, providing home ownership for local people and coming with funding for roads, schools and health facilities. I will continue to work closely with local communities, our councils and the Government to address these issues.”
