Witham MP Priti Patel recently visited Farleigh Hospice to meet with their new chief executive, and to see first hand the care and support the charity provides to patients and their families.

After meeting a few weeks ago at their charity shop in Witham, Sarah Green invited Priti to visit their in-patient facility at Broomfield. During the visit, Priti was able to meet and spend time with staff hospice, and to learn more about the support they provide to patients during one of the most difficult times in anyone’s life. The visit follows on from Dying Awareness Week, which this year focused on the language used in conversations around death and dying, and during their meeting, Priti and Sarah discussed the outreach engagement Farleigh has with patients, their families and the wider community across Essex that they serve. The current funding issues and pressures that hospices are facing were also discussed, and particularly the impact this could have on the provision of the much needed hospice services to patients in Mid Essex.

Speaking after her visit Priti said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Farleigh Hospice alongside CEO Sarah Green and meet the staff who help provide the excellent care and support the charity provides to terminally ill patients.

As a longstanding supporter of Farleigh Hospice, it was a privilege for me to see the incredible work that takes place to give residents and their families the support, respect and dignity they deserve at a sensitive and poignant moment in their lives.

My thanks go to Sarah, the team and residents at Farleigh Hospice for allowing me to spend time with them.”

CEO, Sarah Green said:

“It was wonderful to welcome Priti to Farleigh Hospice, as a longstanding supporter of the hospice and as a local MP. It was a great opportunity for Farleigh to show decision makers like Priti the excellent care our team provide for our residents and their families. During her visit we were able to speak about the challenges the Hospice sector faces and how we can overcome them. As well as the work we are doing both nationally and locally to change attitudes around dying, death and bereavement and engagement with different communities. I’d like to thank Priti for her continued support and for taking the time to visit us at Farleigh Hospice.”
